MBIE has released it’s Interim Report on the investigation into European dumping of frozen processed potato into the NZ market.
Potatoes NZ are reviewing the report this week and meeting with processors next week to determine our next steps.
The investigation shows there is dumping going on, but MBIE have deemed it not bad enough to apply tariffs. PNZ have ten days to submit further on their conclusions.
The data shows that Belgium and the Netherlands are not the main source of New Zealand’s imports of frozen potato fries and wedges - that has been Australia which has contributed nearly half of the annual volume of imports since FY2016.
The data, adjusted as noted above, shows that import shares from Belgium and the Netherlands, at 11 per cent and 18 per cent respectively in FY2020, are well above the negligibility levels noted in Article 5.8 of the AD Agreement.
