Aldi has expanded its partnership with fresh fruit and vegetable grower Hammonds Produce from Nottinghamshire. A new agreement will see Hammonds become Aldi’s sole supplier of British rhubarb, on sale in all Aldi stores across the country.
The grower has also worked with Aldi to introduce and invest in a new, more sustainable packaging for the rhubarb; by adding more air holes to its plastic film, Hammonds has created packaging that helps keep the product fresh for longer. This move will also save the use of around 400 kg of non-recyclable plastic each year.
Business-live.co.uk quoted a spokesman as saying: “Hammonds’ long-term partnership with Aldi has helped the grower enjoy significant growth over the years, as well as continued investment in new product innovation. The new contract will see the family-led business nearly double the amount of rhubarb it provides to the supermarket, while continuing to supply around 4,500 tonnes of other UK grown vegetables each year.”
Jon Hammond, co-owner of Hammond Produce, said: “Our new contract with Aldi is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our 100 per cent British rhubarb to shoppers across the country. The extended partnership will also help to give us the confidence to keep investing in our business.”
“Aldi’s long-term commitment and ongoing support of Hammonds Produce has enabled us to enjoy significant growth throughout the years and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
