Fruit grower/exporter joins in the celebration of the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables

The United Nations General Assembly designated 2021 as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables to raise awareness of the importance of consuming fruits and vegetables, which are essential for human nutrition, food security and health, and for the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), bananas are the most widely sold fruit in supermarkets and the fourth most important food crop in the world.

AgroAmerica is an international food company, dedicated to the production and distribution of fruits, mainly conventional and organic Cavendish bananas.

AgroAmerica has played a key role in food security during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Aware of the nutritional value of bananas in food security, we supported the Government of Guatemala, together with the Association of Independent Banana Producers, by donating $297,000 to the communities most affected by COVID-19 in Guatemala. Furthermore, we donated 1,248,900 bananas to 62,445 families in the communities surrounding our operations in the countries where we operate," said Fernando Bolaños, CEO of AgroAmerica.

During the pandemic, AgroAmerica donated 1,248,900 bananas to 62,445 families in the communities surrounding its operations in the countries it operates in.

Agroindustrial sustainability
AgroAmerica uses sustainable crop methods, in compliance with the most demanding international quality, labor, social and environmental standards in the market.

In addition to being a competitive company, AgroAmerica demonstrates its commitment to the well-being of its workers, the communities and the environment. This is demonstrated by more than 10 certifications and our social and environmental programs, which are aligned with the SDGs. The company is also a member of the Better Banana Project, which addresses environmental and social issues on plantations while increasing farms' efficiency and maintaining high production levels. The ultimate goal of the project is sustainability. It is a win-win solution, because the working conditions are improved and the plantations are more productive.

Organic seal
AgroAmerica complies with the strict guidelines offered by the United States Department of Agriculture and with European and international standards that guarantee the sustainable production and marketing of its organic products.

AgroAmerica guarantees the traceability of its production and distribution chain by complementing its sustainable, world-class banana crops with logistics and transportation services and BASC (Business Alliance for Secure Commerce) certification.

"We congratulate the United Nations on raising awareness of healthy eating and joining in on the celebration of the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables by offering food products of high nutritional value, produced in a responsible and sustainable manner," added Bolaños.
