Extreme heat affects growth of mango and litchis in Rajshahi district

Juvenile mangoes and litchis in Bangladesh’ Rajshahi district are drying up and dropping off due to the extreme heat and a long absence of rainfall.

The Rajshahi Meteorological Office has stated there was only 7.6 mm of rainfall on April 9 and 11 in some counties to the the east of Rajshahi city. There was no rainfall in the Rajshahi Metropolitan area, Godagari, Tanore, Mohanpur, Paba, Durgapur and Bagmara counties. The temperature in Rajshahi is continuously increasing as well, creating mild to moderate heat waves.

In Rajshahi, the highest day temperature was recorded at 39.6oCelsius on last April 14. The lowest temperature of the day was 23.6oCelsius.
