Chinese storage apple market unlikely to pick up

The shipments volume of cold storage apples are finally picking up. Many growers lowered their asking prices and are shipping as much as they can. A few days ago, there were still more than 8 million tons in the cold storage; these days, shipment has finally sped up. Some traders are also doing their best to ship the goods, and no longer insist on prices.

In the retail market, apple prices have also fallen. There are now fewer products marketed at 6-8 yuan per half a kilo, and more marketed at 4 yuan. Of course, there is still a difference between the grades of products marketed at different prices, but at the moment, there are very few mid- to premium-grades on the retail market, and the main sales-force is affordable mid- and lower-grades. The falling prices may be a forced move due to high pressure. In the two months between the end of April to June, can prices still pick back up?

It would be too difficult! The overall fruit market this year has been weak. Various types of fruit in the South are experiencing a bumper harvest, there are an increasing volume of greenhouse fruits, and the volume in the cold storage is also higher than in previous years. The fruit consumer market is sluggish, and the fruit export market is also unpredictable. Under such circumstances, even the price of fruits that have just become available are declining, let along cold storage apples. The chance of prices picking back up is very low already, and will worsen after mid-May when more seasonal fruits become available on the market.
