South African stonefruit is seeing very good volumes this season with a lot of volume on the UK market.
“There are a lot of red and black skinned varieties around just now,” said Chris Fagg from FreshPro Imports. “We have good volumes of African Delight and Ruby Star supplied from South African exporter Lucerne Fresh. These have a vibrant red skin colour and yellow flesh with a natural bloom, the quality is superb and they are very sweet with +15% brix.”
FreshPro Imports are currently offering a £20 e-voucher for every pallet purchased, the voucher can be used by the purchaser or donated to charity.
“They are such great quality varieties we wanted to do some promotion with them and stand out from the crowds, so to speak. There have been a lot of plums on the market until now, but most of the mid-season varieties are clearing out now and we are seeing the later red varieties and moving into the September Yummies, the main variety coming in now will be the Angelino which has the black skin, but people in the wholesale markets do prefer a red skinned plum.”
“The promotion started at the weekend and we have seen a good start with the plums going to a few of the wholesale markets in England and we are hoping to open it up further this week.”
