Calabria & Calabria

New range of regional processed products

"The crisis of the past few years has brought the Calabria citrus fruit sector to its knees. Fruit, despite the great quality, does not sell due to competition from abroad, so much so that sometimes it is not even harvested. The new jam and marmalade line we developed has the purpose of promoting the fruits from our territory, also to relaunch its eco-friendly productions," explains Angela Zappia, owner of Calabria & Calabria together with husband Agostino Sirianni .

Calabria & Calabria was established in Cittanova (RC) in 2005 and processes local organic and traditional fruits and vegetables. The brand focuses on the values of the short chain, enabling producers and consumers to pursue a shared objective: obtain high-quality produce with a low environmental impact that respects both the health and the environment.

The new jam and marmalade range aims mainly at livening up the Calabria citrus fruit sector.

The new MIA range is a tribute to the origin of the company founders, who are both from Calabria. The following flavors are available: orange, lemon, bergamot orange, clementine, citrus mix, strawberry, fruits of the forest, fig, golden kiwifruit, green kiwifruit.

Calabria & Calabria also produces a unique jam with Annona Cherimola, an exotic fruit grown only in some parts of the region with a particular taste reminiscent of pineapple, banana and strawberry.

"The new range aims mainly at recovering the traditions and flavors of a territory that boasts distinctive products. A team work to relaunch the local economy, which has been put to the test by the pandemic."

Products are available in 390 gram jars with a quantity of fruit exceeding 70% with an intense aroma and flavor. Jams and marmalades are prepared using high-quality seasonal fresh fruits harvested when perfectly ripe and sugar, processed with soft cooking times.

Ideal for breakfast, desserts or snacks or together with yoghurt and cereal as well as with cakes, puddings, smoothies and shakes.

The most popular products part of the savory line include: Ndujacheese, Red Onion spread and Chili Pepper and Anchovy spread. The traditional line also includes classic dried or filled tomatoes, red onions with chili peppers, picked vegetables and eggplant rolls with dried tomatoes available in 1 or 2 kg trays or 250 to 500 gram jars for the big retail, catering and restaurant channels.

"In our processing laboratories, technology is functional and proportionate to the quality of the product used. We avoid all short cuts that might compromise the original organoleptic properties of the raw materials, which are free from colorings, preservatives and synthetic additives. We have noticed how gourmet niche products produced artisanally are becoming more popular."

Over the years, the company has invested in processing lines to improve its production capacity. New recipes and products that meet the needs of clients and markets of reference are also points of strengths for the brand.

"The experience our family developed as restaurateurs helps us when we develop new recipes, which have a typical regional character. This is why our products are recognizable abroad, especially in the US and Canada, where we make 20% of our turnover."

Calabria & Calabria is delighted to welcome guests to try the new range at the new production facility in Polistena (RC).
