Richard Strijbis, Tovano, the Netherlands

"Good Easter sales, but shipping delays are an issue"

It's still bustling for Easter at Tovano in the Netherlands. "You sometimes don't understand where it all goes," laughs Richard Strijbis. "Easter sales actually increase a little every year. For us, it's a busier time of year than Christmas."

Arrivals are, however, creating challenges. "Sea freight has been quite an issue since COVID-19 broke out last year. None of the containers seem to arrive on time anymore. And transport has become much more expensive. Add the problems in the Suez Canal to that. Then it's very dynamic."

"Luckily, we don't sell fresh strawberries. Besides, we always build up decent stocks. Then so we don't have any immediate problems supplying our customers. Raw nuts are currently popular. But pine nuts, almonds and cashew nuts are also going strong. Dates, too, are popular and Ramadan's about to start. So, I don't think those sales will slow down for the time being either," Richard concludes.
