The garlic and stone fruit contact groups of the Spanish-French-Italian-Portuguese Joint Committee are expected to meet on April 6 and May 25, respectively. These meetings follow the first one of the strawberry group, which took place on February 16.
Most of the contact group meetings will be held in the first half of 2021, so that the plenary of the Joint Committee, where all the agreements of the groups are analyzed, can take place in June. Last year, due to the pandemic, the 2020 Joint Committee did not meet, but those of the product groups did take place.
The contact groups are made up of sector representatives from the countries that make up the Joint Committee and members of their respective administrations. They analyze the campaigns of each product, look into any specific problems and agree on joint actions, which are then submitted to the plenary of the Joint Committee.
FEPEX and its integrated Associations have promoted and taken part in practically all the contact groups and plenary sessions of the Joint Committee that have taken place since this Committee was set up in December 1997. They consider it a common framework for work and understanding between sectors. Interests aren't always shared, but there are common objectives.
