Southern Seed's Giovi' F1 adapts to a wide range of production areas

Increasing interest in light green courgettes

There is a growing interest in the light green courgettes in international markets and Italy is working hard to meet the demand. Once mainly grown in the south of the country, this courgette has now expanded to other areas as well. A variety that is becoming more and more popular is Giovì F1, which, thanks to its strong aroma and taste, also highly appreciated in the other countries around the Mediterranean.

Giovì F1

Giovì F1 is a very rustic and vigorous plant, with a lot of space between the leaves, allowing the courgette to be easily spotted. The plant has short and regular internodes and excellent adaptability to long cycles. The courgette is light green and has the special characteristic of having a very dark stalk.

"I am interested in Giovì F1 because of its regular yield of the plant and the overall quality of the courgettes. The resistance is good, and they have a long shelf life after the harvest," said grower Vincenzo Sferrazza from Licata, Sicily.

Sferrazza (pictured above) has therefore been confirmed in his decision to grow Giovi, also as a marketing choice, because the skin is always shiny and aesthetically pleasing.

"Thanks to its thick skin, the Giovì is more resistant to the touch and its lower spoilage ensures better selling prices. Its regular shape ensures that the most diverse types of packaging can be used."

"Giovì has shown good results with everyone and this variety guarantees long and profitable growing cycles" (source: Southern Seed).

The plant has excellent tolerance to the main viruses and is resistant to the light fluctuations of the winter cycles. It adapts easily to different soils and can be grown both in the open ground and under tunnels.
