The transporter's strike in Peru affected more than 7,000 families engaged in the production of organic bananas in the Piura region. On Monday, producers will ship 40 containers valued at more than 3 million soles that they had been unable to export since the beginning of the strike.
The transporters carried out the strike against the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) over the price of tolls, fuel, and other points. As the days went by, the banana producers decided to join the protest to demand immediate solutions from the authorities.
This alliance gave favorable results. Hours after the banana producers joined the protest, the transporters agreed to lift the strike until April 30. Valentin Ruiz, the president of the National Banana Board, stated that they had met with the Paita transporters union and agreed to join forces to demand immediate solutions from the MTC.
In addition, they agreed to move to the port of Paiteño the 40 containers of bananas that are ready for shipment.
