Huercasa became the first company in Castile and Leon to certify its Sustainability Strategy with AENOR

Huercasa, a company that has been committed to global sustainability for more than 40 years, became the first company in Castile and Leon to receive AENOR's Sustainable Strategy (SDG) certification for incorporating sustainability into its principles and for aligning the Company's strategies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) most relevant to its activity.

“Huercasa is a benchmark company that has been at the forefront of the elaboration and commercialization of 5th range vegetable products for more than 40 years. The company continues to bet on modernization through digitization and innovation; continuously training the sector; trading with more than 40 countries; and betting on quality in all its nuances, to meet and face the future challenges and conditioning factors that the food industry faces,” stated Jorge Llorente, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development of the Junta de Castile and Leon.

The president of Huercasa, Felix Moracho, reiterated the company's commitment to sustainability in all its aspects. "Huercasa is firmly committed to sustainability. It is one of our strategic lines. Our company will bet on it just as it has bet on product quality and food safety.”

Ana San Romualdo, a spokesperson for Huercasa, spoke about the company's trajectory in terms of sustainability in recent decades, highlighting the most relevant SDGs achieved by the company's Sustainability Action Plan, which has more than 100 initiatives.

The Segovian company can say that its commitment is a reality and that its sustainable strategy works. They donate products to the Food Bank contributing to SDG 2: Zero Hunger; they promote SDG 3: Health and Well-being through their country music festival; and they have an equality plan to ensure that there is no distinction between men and women in the organization, thus complying with SDG 5: Gender Equality. Today, thanks to AENOR, a leading certification company in the sector, they can celebrate.

Alvaro Rincon, the company's industrial technical director, spoke about the progress that the company is making towards global sustainability and highlighted the effort they are making in the area of water: “In recent years, we have reduced the consumption of water by 14%, going from 8.9 m³ per ton of product in 2017 to 6.9 m³ in 2019 ”.
