A fifth-generation potato farm in Lanlivery is set to double its productivity thanks to a £400,000 investment. Colwith Farm supplies premium quality Cornish potatoes, to brands including McCain and Burts Crisps. It is also home to the Colwith Farm Distillery and its Aval Dor vodka.
Now, the business has been able to install a robot potato picker to speed up efficiencies when bagging potatoes, increasing productivity on the grading line by 25%.
Clare Dustow -who manages the farm with husband Chris- said that as a result of the drive by both consumers and retailers to source food from British farms, Colwith has seen an increase in demand for its potatoes across the UK.
According to Clare, the new equipment will allow the farm to meet the new demand while continuing to maintain the high-quality of its produce all year round.
