Last week, La Union Corp and Nice Tech shipped their new project's first truck of fresh-cut frozen fruit and vegetable products from the Cuatro Higueras district in Adra, Almeria, stated the general director of La Union, Jesus Barranco.
The first shipments are intended for an international customer who bought sliced tomatoes and cucumbers. This type of product has a great place in the Horeca channel and the initial idea is to market this product through the fast-food chains with which Nice Tech already has commercial agreements.
La Unión and this technology company joined forces in this unique and innovative project and created Alunt La Unión Nice Almeria, to build in this province the first plant in Europe for the production of frozen fruits and vegetables through a 100% physical process, patented by Nice Tech, which keeps the cellular structure of vegetables intact during freezing and allows them to preserve all of their fresh-state organoleptic properties when thawed.
The project has started with the processing of tomatoes and cucumbers, but the goal is to also process other products, such as peppers or melons. The plant required an investment of 18.5 million euro, which was paid by both partners, and it was installed where La Unión's first processing warehouse in Adra was.
