New promotional campaign for PGI lemons from Syracuse

The 2021 promotional campaign for PGI lemons from Syracuse has started with the aim of illustrating this delicacy to final consumers as well as to the business audience.

In 2000, the European Union granted the PGI mark to lemons from Syracuse. The produce can be grown in the Syracuse, Noto, Avola, Floridia, Solarino, Priolo Gargallo, Augusta, Sortino, Rosolini and Melilli municipalities.

"PGI lemons from Syracuse are commercialized fresh all over Italy and Europe, mainly in Germany, Austria, France, the UK, Denmark and Norway. There are no added preservatives, so much so that even the peel is edible. This year too, we aim at stressing the value of the connection with the production territory, but we also wanted to stress the Italian origin, as I believe it is synonymous with high quality and respect for consumers," explained Alessandra Campisi, president of the Consortium.

Lemons have been grown in Syracuse for over a thousand years and the area is still a leading producer today. The alluvial soil rich in freshwater and the mild climate throughout the year make the fruit unique thanks to the quantity of juice, high quality of essential oils and high levels of vitamin C and citric acid.

"Of course our lemons stand out thanks to their high quality and nutritional values, an aspect I wanted to highlight as part of the campaign. Our lemons can be found all over the world in sweets, liqueurs and fragrances," stressed Alessandra Campisi.

The campaign started on March 8th on Radio Rai 2 and will continue also on other channels until March 21st, and aims at reaching 5 million contacts. The campaign is part of a communication strategy developed in cooperation with CSO Italy.
