Enrique Colilles, CEO of Trops: "Consumers should know that there are avocados in Spain and they are 'always at their best'"

Trops launches ambitious promotional campaign to boost avocado consumption in Spain

Trops has just announced the launch of a campaign to promote avocado consumption in the Spanish market under the slogan "TROPS Avocado, the best avocado in the history of avocados."

"We want Spanish consumers to know more about Trops avocados and to be aware that this subtropical fruit is produced in Spain. Per capita consumption in Spain amounts to around 1.3 kilos and we think there is still a lot of room for growth," says Enrique Colilles, CEO of Trops.

The Malaga-based company is the main avocado and mango producer in Europe, accounting for more than 40% of the avocado production in the Iberian Peninsula. Although quite a few new producing partners have joined this year, they expect fewer volumes of avocados, since production in the Iberian Peninsula will drop by between 25 and 30%.

Its avocado production is carried out mostly in the southern area of Spain, mainly in Malaga and Granada, the Mediterranean strip of Valencia, Alicante, and in the southern area of Portugal (Algarve).

"One of the aspects that holds Spanish consumes back when it comes to buying avocados is not knowing when the best time is to consume them," says Enrique Colilles. "We want to promote the product as one that is perfectly ripe, so the product is 'always at its best'. It is also cultivated with great care, which ensures an outstanding high quality and excellent flavor, and it's very versatile."

"We control every step: cultivation in the field, careful harvesting, product quality, ripening and packaging and marketing and distribution," says the CEO of Trops.

The campaign will run until next June and will be carried out nationwide in different media, such as television and radio, as well as digital media through social networks. They will also collaborate with influencers such as Carlos Ríos and his Realfooding movement.

"The results of our campaigns to promote mango consumption have been positive and we want to do the same with avocados. I think it is necessary, since consumers are looking for trustworthy brands," says Enrique Colilles.

We will see it on all Spanish TV channels of the two leading groups: Mediaset España and Atresmedia Televisión. TROPS avocado will be in ‘prime time’ through sponsorships and promotions in various programs.

Trops, more than four decades of production and marketing
The Sociedad Agraria de Transformación Trops was created in 1979, when five agricultural producers from the Axarquía region decided to join forces to offer their products directly to the national and international markets.

Today, Trops is the largest Transnational Producers Organization of Andalusia specialized in the production and marketing of avocados and mangoes. It has more than 2,800 associated producers and its products are present in more than 25 countries. It is also a pioneer in the research and implementation of new cultivation techniques that can guarantee the sustainability of the environment where it is present.
