ARRA program answers Passion demand in grape market

Innovation and dedication are the core forces behind the creation of a great table grape, according to the team behind the ARRA breeding program. “We work tirelessly towards developing the ideal grape, shaping the table grape industry as a whole.”

Producers around the world understand, now more than ever, the need to keep up with evolving industry standards and to better adjust to the consumer demands. “As a result, a new world of opportunity is emerging for the proprietary seedless varieties, with the increasing need to replace traditional more costly varieties for the new and promising.”

With a wide international presence, ARRA Passion Fire™, an early red selection from the ARRA range, has attracted considerable attention. “ARRA Passion Fire (ARRA 29) has large, crisp berries, a medium sized bunch and exceptional eating quality. Ripening at the same time as Flame, ARRA Passion Fire has become the most desirable Flame replacement yet.”

ARRA Passion Fire (ARRA 29) “With a fiery red skin and lusciously unique taste, no flame can hold a candle to the Passion Fire’s size, flavor and exceptional shelf life.”

AVI srl, exclusive ARRA agent in Europe, received great feedback from the market this past season. Carlo Lingua, AVI CEO, reports: “This was our first season importing ARRA Passion Fire from Morocco to Europe and it was a great success. The quality of this variety has been reinforced by various supermarket chains, so much so that once they run out of it, they immediately requested more. This is a variety that is here to stay and will take its position in many grape supply programs for seasons to come.” Carlo adds: “ARRA Passion Fire is admired for its phenomenal eating qualities: it is crunchy and incredibly delicious not to mention its beautiful red cherry color that is truly eye-catching on supermarket shelves.”

Opening the year, ARRA Passion Fire received glowing reviews from Orvi, Namibia. Marc De Naeyer, Managing Partner at Trofi BV, refers to Orvi’s harvest: “ARRA Passion Fire is a blockbuster. Its shape, texture and yield are impressive. The fruit has an amazing shelf life and we need fruit that allows the operators to work for more than a week. ARRA 29 will be the main early cultivar and that makes us happy.”

Mimi Corsaro at Giumarra Vineyards Corp.: “Our customers in the US and overseas were very pleased with the size and the flavor of the ARRA 29 last season. To have such an early red variety that tastes great, has exceptional size, and ships and stores well means that we have the jump on the competition to obtain better market pricing. It also provides peace of mind to send a variety on a longer transit and know that it will still look fantastic and eat well upon arrival.”
