Last Thursday, the Onion Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (OPMAN) inaugurated onion exports through Sokoto state Illela land border.
Abdulrahameed Ma’aji, the Area Controller of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in charge of Sokoto and Zamfara states, has urged producers and marketers to utilize the opportunity for enhanced production and trading. He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for reopening the land borders for legitimate businesses, and praised the efforts of the Comptroller General of NCS, Hameed Ali for keeping in tune with international best practice in Customs’ responsibilities.
”Despite [the] COVID-19 Pandemic, NCS provided proactive solutions to the public that will aid continued reliable and quality service delivery for sustenance of global trade” Ma’aji said.
As reported on pulse.ng, Nigeria is among the ten top onion exporting countries in the world, and the largest onion producing country in sub-Saharan Africa, with annual 1.4 million tonnes of output.
