On February 26, a ceremony took place in Fufan Mango Center in Tianya District, Sanya City, to celebrate the strategic cooperation with Hema Fresh. This is the third year that “ripen on the tree” mangoes from this city are marketed in Hema Fresh. During the ceremony, Peng Shidun, President of the Sanya Mango Association, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the head of Hema Fresh. It is hoped that through Hema Fresh’s retail and marketing platform, distribution channels will be expanded and the Sanya brand will be promoted, in order to further expand market influence.
Mangoes from Sanya are available from February to May each year. These “ripen on the tree” products are mangoes left on the tree to ripen until they are 80% ready, which have a good flavor. It is understood that farm-gate prices of these Hema Fresh mangos are 30% to 50% higher than those from ordinary sales outlets. This year, Hema Fresh will harvest millions of kilos of Guifei mangos, about one-third of Sanya’s production.
Well-known across China for their early ripping characteristics, appealing appearances, and excellent quality, mangos from Sanya are highly popular among consumers. There are nearly 400,000 mu of mangoes planted in Sanya City, bringing an annual production of over 650,000 tons and an annual production value of nearly 6 billion yuan. As the largest tropical fruit industry in the city, it is one of the main sources of income for local growers. The peak marketing season lasts from early February to early May, during which more than 10 varieties are offered, such as Tainong, Guifei, Ivory, Jinhuang, and Keitt, among which, 10 varieties including Tainong, Guifei, and Ivory have been rated high-quality produce.
In recent years, Sanya has vigorously encouraged mango companies to develop the market and establish cooperative relations with major markets in Mainland China. So far, Sanya has established distribution offices in 18 cities in the country, including Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and opened direct sales to more than 100 cities. In terms of export, mangoes from Sanya have been successfully exported to 13 countries and regions including Canada, Germany, and Switzerland.
