Despite the pandemic, Costa Rica's banana exports increased by 7% in 2020

Costa Rica's National Banana Corporation (Corbana) stated on Thursday that, despite global restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the volume of banana exports had increased by 7% in 2020.

In total, Costa Rica exported 129.6 million 18.14-kilogram boxes of bananas, which generated a total of 1,120 million dollars, compared to the 120.7 million boxes it shipped in 2019.

According to the entity, the border closures due to COVID-19 forced the sector to adapt and to ship to new markets, as well as to traditional destinations, but at a lower price.
