Arrigoni offers its ranges of Libeccio and Scirocco meshes

Windbreaker and shading meshes that increase citrus yields by up to 30%

According to the latest data from the World Citrus Organization, citrus production is on the rise worldwide. However, adverse weather conditions, such as strong hot and cold winds, can decisively compromise this trend. Libeccio and Scirocco, Arrigoni's 100% ecological solutions, respond to these threats.

These solutions, which protect the citrus orchard from unforeseen meteorological phenomena, such as strong hail storms, also improve their microclimate by reducing winds by up to more than 50% and controlling the degree of shade that covers the crops. According to field tests, these solutions minimize the physiological stress of the plants improving their health, yields, fruit quality, and increasing productivity by more than 30%.

Citrus crops under the Arrigoni LIBECCIO 50 TRANSPARENT mesh

Arrigoni's first solution, Scirocco, is a high-density polyethylene mesh that can protect the crops against ultraviolet rays, with an air permeability that can vary from 33 to more than 60%, depending on the chosen textile pattern. The Libeccio range is another ideal solution for growing citrus in areas that are subjected to wind storms. It is a Raschel mesh windbreaker protection and it is available in different types depending on the areas where it will be used.

LIBECCIO 50 TRANSPARENT is a mesh that protects the crops against hail, frost, and provides them with moderate shading creating the ideal microclimate within the orchard, favoring the fruit's full development. Specifically, field tests have shown lower temperature fluctuations, better humidity conditions, and greater efficiency in the use of water. Lastly, these meshes also create more favorable conditions for workers without hampering their labor-intensive operations.

Shading and hail meshes
High insolation and hail are other factors that influence the quality of citrus fruits. The protection nets that best respond to these risks are Iride Multi Pro Extra, a woven mesh with a shading factor of 8%, and Fructus 5/4, hail protection mesh in high-density polyethylene monofilament with a 6% shading factor. In addition, field tests have shown that Iride Multi Pro Extra also favors the cultivation of seedless citrus fruits, which are very appreciated by consumers, because they control cross-pollination, the main cause of the formation of seeds within fruits.
