Pooling service provider Euro Pool System recommends HERMA self-adhesive material

  • The fresh food logistics service provider Euro Pool System places two HERMA self-adhesive label materials on its customers’ recommendation list.
  • The labels adhere to the reusable boxes with the special adhesive 62P, even in a cool damp environment.
  • The labels can be removed easily after each use without leaving any residue.

The pooling service provider for reusable packaging Euro Pool System now recommends HERMA self-adhesive material to its customers as a tested raw material for labels. Thanks to the adhesive 62P, the labels for the appropriate labelling of the reusable boxes fulfil two essentially contradictory properties particularly well: they provide reliable adhesion in a cool, damp environment and can be washed off again at a later stage without leaving any residue. The 62P has proven its practical benefit in combination with the HERMAextracoat (grade 242) label material, which is now on Euro Pool System’s recommendation list.

Customers of the leading logistics provider of reusable packaging in the European fresh supply chain include producers, transport companies and processing companies. Euro Pool System offers so-called pooling services for the efficient and reliable transport of fresh goods, such as fruit and vegetables, bananas, meat, fish, seafood, eggs and baked goods. The logistics provider uses reusable and folding plastic crates, which are in circulation for more than seven years and are therefore significantly more sustainable than disposable alternatives. After each journey, the crates are checked, cleaned and left with the next customer for reuse. This aims to ensure that no third-party labels are found on the crates.

Euro Pool System recommends to its customers a selection of self-adhesive materials for labels, which are subject to strict criteria, for the labelling of reusable boxes. “Our adhesive 62P has proven itself in practice as a label that can be removed easily without leaving any residue,” explains Marcus Gablowski, Head of Adhesive and Special Coating Development at HERMA. The customer therefore no longer needs to do additional cleaning work as crates with labels firmly stuck to them either require costly treatment or need to be sorted out.

Contribution to an enhanced circular economy
The cleaning process is an elementary step on the way to an improved circular economy as the label is cleanly separated from the reusable boxes. The HERMA labels are removed from crates with hot water, high pressure and highly effective cleaning agents. The adhesive 62P remains completely intact on the label, which is removed with the dirty water. This means that no adhesive residue sticks to the crates. The adhesive 62P was developed in HERMA’s own laboratory in Filderstadt.
