European potato market (week 7)

Netherlands: general price increase

European physical markets

Price summary €/t (source: NEPG):

Belgium

Fiwap/PCA market message:

Potatoes for processing: some factories are still buying to cover limited needs, but the markets are also driven by the potato demand to complete the shortage of volumes under contract, especially through intermediate trade.

Bintje, Fontane, Challenger: 7.50 €/q, with prices sometimes higher to complete contracts and for delivery in March-April. Firm markets. Much higher prices sometimes apply to very nice batches of Bintje, immediate delivery and in the next 3 weeks.

Bintje plant: little trade, but prices are firm. The small calibers are difficult to find (almost no offer). Dutch/French/Belgian plant, class A, returned March 2021, by 10 tons, in big-bags, excl.VAT; offer completed with Danish plant.

Caliber 28 - 35 mm: momentarily no quotation due to lack of offer; the very rare availability is sometimes sold at prices above 95 €/q.

Caliber 35 - 45 mm: 53.00 to 58.00 €/q, firm prices.

Forward market

EEX in Leipzig (€/q) Bintje, Agria and related var. for transformer, 40 mm+, min 60 % 50 mm +:

Netherlands
General price increase (among others, fries cat.1 destination NeBeDe with an average increase of 1.25€/q, between 6 and 9.50 €/q), also for flakes and livestock. Prices for delayed delivery (March to June) ranging from 7 to 14.00 €/q. The signing of contracts seems painstaking and some buyers might be increasing their contract prices.

Various real transactions, for different varieties (Fontane, Bintje, Agria) have taken place in the past few days, all at 8.00 €/q for immediate delivery or delayed to March.

The domestic fresh markets have not evolved as much, and prices remain between 10.00 and 18.00 €/q. The lowest prices are for the soft flesh varieties, and the highest for the firm flesh at 18.00 €/q. Export is unchanged at prices between 9 and 11.00 €/q at the producer.

France
Processing market: unchanged prices, while they progress everywhere else in northwestern Europe.

Industrial production, bulk, departure, excl.VAT, Nord-Seine, €/qt, min - max (moy)(RNM):
