The current cold snap is making itself felt everywhere in the Federal Republic, including at the wholesale markets. "We currently have minus eight degrees here. That means that many market traders can't go to the markets because of the weather, because it's too cold. Unfortunately, this is also noticeable in the sales at the wholesale market. There is simply a lack of customers," says Carmine Cirimele, Cologne wholesale market trader and Managing Director of Frugales LLC.
For the first time in the Frugales range: air-freighted Peruvian mangoes of the Monna Lisa label.
Despite the weak market, there are currently several eye-catchers in the incoming goods department, the trader emphasises. "We have air-freighted Peruvian mangoes of the premium Monna Lisa label on offer for the first time this week. The quality of these mangoes is very good; the fruits are very nicely coloured," he says. The prices are in line with the season, between 32 and 46 euros per colli.
Mexican green asparagus
In addition to this, last Friday the first Mexican green asparagus of the season came in. "These are traded around 3.80-4.20 euros/colli and are currently showing extremely stable prices."
