In 1956, Henk Banken and his wife, Stien, started growing mushrooms in Batenburg, the Netherlands. In the 70s, he sold his mushrooms directly to fruit and vegetable wholesalers and restaurants. Shortly after that, he started selling his fellow farmers' products to his ever-growing client base.

Ultimately, this formed the basis of the current Banken Champignons Group. The group has over 450 employees and clients in more than 30 countries. Henk's two sons, Jurgen and Rob, have been part of the group for more than 25 years. They've been managing the companies for some time already.

With Henk's death, the Banken family loses their patriarch and loving father, and a remarkable, committed businessman.
