Jacques Banuls, Edenys:

“Brexit did not affect our sales in England”

For Edenys, a shipper of French apples, Brexit did not have a great impact on sales. “It is true that we were a bit worried at first, but in terms of sales, everything is actually going very well on the English market,” explains Jacques Banuls, sales manager. “Above all, there is a serious personal investment to implement it all. Everything was arranged so we have been able to work like we did before Brexit, without any decrease in orders. The market has really picked up again.”

Jacques adds that at the international level, the second half of the campaign is even more dynamic than the first. “There is a shortage of apples in Europe, confirmed by the amount of orders. The large export market always brings good outputs.”

The situation on the French market, on the other hand, is more heterogeneous. “I have the feeling that consumers are a little hesitant because of the coronavirus. There are weeks when the demand is very high and there are calmer weeks, depending on the government’s decisions and announcements.”

Range
The main varieties at Edenys are the Pink Lady and the Granny. These two sell very well. “At the international level, there is a great lack of Granny apples, we ship them to several destinations. In Asia for example, we have many departures to Thailand.” Besides these two varieties, Edenys also has the Joya, Golden and Gala available.

Jacques indicates that the quality of the apples is very nice this year. “The weather conditions were very good here. We have a large harvest, so we will be able to supply our products until May.” Last year, due to the lack of apples on the market, Edenys ended its campaign in March.

This year, Edenys has set up a machine to produce 100% cardboard packaging, without any plastic. According to Jacques, the new packaging is very much liked by consumers.
