Sophie Ye, KX Food, Belgium

“The ginger market is currently well balanced”

“The Chinese ginger season is currently in full swing. We have sufficient supply to meet the high demand," says Sophie Ye of the Belgian import company, KX Food. "In addition to Chinese ginger, we have some ginger from Peru in stock. But most of our ginger comes from China. The Peruvian season is practically over. Brazil isn't supplying either at the moment."

The good demand means the ginger market is well balanced. "Prices are good for this time of year. The ginger's quality is also excellent. In December, there were many inferior-quality batches on the market. But now, the quality of the ginger is much better. We can offer our clients a nice product."

KX Food doesn't offer only organic and conventional ginger. They have other import products too. These include garlic, pomelos of various colors, and sweet chestnuts. "The chestnuts are especially popular during autumn and the holidays. Ginger is, however, our most popular product. People have recently discovered how well this product suits a healthy lifestyle," Sophie concludes.
