"The solution lies not in less but in better packaging"

"The packaging industry is under pressure to change the negative image of plastics and packaging into a positive one. After all, packaging was created to get food to the consumer safe and sound. Food waste is, of course, a much bigger problem, and skimping on packaging could have a detrimental effect on the reduction of food waste. After all, the costs are higher by a factor of 10," according to Wim van Cuijk from Arbarka.

The packaging industry is proactively working to make materials more environmentally friendly by playing with thickness, design and using recycled or biobased materials.

"The solution lies not in less but in better. Mono-materials are very important in this respect. In this way, the recycling companies can best and most cheaply achieve renewed materials that can be used for food in a 100% food-safe manner."

Abarka packaging solutions is one such company that, together with its partners, is working hard on this environmentally-friendly venture. Regardless of the choice of material (including paper), they can reduce the packaging weight, even for 100% mono-materials. With the latest developments, it is possible to reduce the weight of plastic in packaging by 20 to 30%.

With the SKIRTALL Tulip design, it is possible to eliminate lids and sleeves for almost all packages and to work with a thin seal edge. SKIRTALL offers these major advantages:

1) Up to 30% reduction of packaging material, thus cheaper.

2) Still a great traditional look, with a huge attention value on the shelf or online.
