The Spanish citrus season has been going on for several months and according to trader William Willems of Central Fruit it is a great season. “The entire line of Spanish citrus from our own brand Cibel is of very good quality this season. Together with our partners we try to guarantee premium quality every year throughout the season and this year we have succeeded exceptionally well. ”
“The demand for citrus is currently normalised. December is traditionally a very good citrus month with high demand. There is currently a great demand for easy peelers, such as clementines. The demand for hand oranges is stable, but the demand for pressing oranges has partly disappeared due to the closure of the catering industry,” explains William.
In addition to the range of Spanish citrus, there is also Egyptian, Turkish and Israeli on the market. “This does give some pressure. Slowly, there is an oversupply forming, which also puts prices under some pressure. Spain itself speaks of less availability and a rising price level for buyers of Spanish citrus, but that is speculative. How things will turn out for the coming months is hard to predict, but so far we can be very satisfied,” William concludes.
