Hamburg-based Frutal has added pomegranate seeds to its extensive range since January 2021. Frutal Managing Director Hüseyin Can Olgun sees great market opportunities in the new range - for two reasons: "The convenience market has been growing for years - and it will continue to grow. In addition, we core the pomegranates on site in Hamburg, which means we guarantee unconditional freshness," he told FreshPlaza.

Frutal has gained an exclusive partner for processing the tropical fruit, FrischFrucht LLC on the Hamburg wholesale market site. In contrast to other suppliers who pit the kernels in the countries of origin, the principle of "produced today, at the customer's the next morning" can thus be realised. "We obtain the raw material from different countries, so the seeds are available all year round."

State-of-the-art production site
"For pomegranate processing, we have built a new state-of-the-art production facility. The entire production is completely automated. This means we guarantee hygiene at the highest standard and have been IFS Food certified since December 2020," Mr Olgun explains.
The kernels are available now and Frutal is ready to work with partners. The kernels are offered in convenient to-go cups. The size of the cups can vary between 100 and 150 grams. For bulk buyers, 1-kilogram bags will also be possible in the future.
