26,5 hectares under lit-cultivation

Dutch coop, Kompany, has first conventional lit-cultivation cucumbers available again

Last year, the Dutch cooperative, Kompany, had own-grown cucumbers available year-round for the first time. That was thanks to their growers using LED lightning. "That went well for both the client and grower. We aim to expand this further this year," says a Kompany representative.

They now have the first conventional lit-cultivation cucumbers available again too. Next week, the cooperative will have 26.5 hectares of lit-cultivation cucumbers in production. They can then, therefore, meet the increased demand for Dutch cucumbers sooner and better.

"This allows clients to offer regional products earlier in the year. That has several advantages for the client. These include having fresher cucumbers and the ability to respond quickly to demand. For consumers, it's becoming increasingly important where products are grown. They prefer regional goods over that from faraway countries," the Kompany spokesperson concludes.
