Vitalis workshop at BioKennisWeek in the Netherlands today

Warmer soil poses challenges for pumpkins

There's sadly no in-person Biobeurs in the Netherlands this year. But, there is an online BioKennisWeek. Today, Vitalis Seed Suppliers had a workshop about pumpkins called  Warmer soil; a challenge for pumpkins.

Summers are generally getting warmer, and there are more weather extremes. That's due to climate change. These extremes are posing new challenges for pumpkin farmers. These include diseases that previously caused few problems in the Benelux. There's higher disease pressure too.

In this workshop, phytopathologist Ronald Wilterdink discussed these known and new pathogens and addressed the following questions:

  • How can you recognize diseases and pests in pumpkin cultivation?
  • How do these spread?
  • What can growers do to prevent these?

The workshop was held at 11:00. But Vitalis staff is also available online. You can visit them there. That's for all your questions, which you'd generally ask at the Biobeurs.
