At the beginning of this year, Meijnen transport moved from its old location in Doetinchem to the Edisonstraat in Zevenaar. In the new building, right along the A12, the company has 3800 m2 of refrigerated storage and 6 docks for loading and unloading. Richard Meijnen, owner of the transport company, which is mainly devoted to the conditioned groupage transport of fruit and vegetables, bought the property together with Transtolk. "It took a while to find a suitable location, but in the end, we really got something."
“My most important requirement for the new location was that it was easily accessible, and we succeeded, since the new location is located right next to the motorway towards Germany. Also, it will become even more accessible in the future. In 4 years' time, the A15, which runs through the Betuwe, is planned to be extended to the German border. It will soon be on my doorstep, in fact. The exit for Zevenaar will be on my street.”
The facilities will soon be filled with fruit and vegetables
In addition to storage and transhipment, Richard also sees possibilities for shorter fruit and vegetable storage. “We will soon be able to have 3,500 pallets of fruit and vegetables at the new location. We will also be unloading containers at our site. Since the start of the new year, this is also the only refrigerated storage location for fruit and vegetables on the German border, between Hoogeveen and Venlo, along the main road route between the port of Rotterdam and the European hinterland.”
“With that, we, as shippers, hope to be able to offer added value to fruit and vegetable traders. For example, Dutch companies could deliver their fruit and vegetables to us, after which European shippers could transport them further. Of course, we can also take the customers' goods from A to B. The move offers us many new possibilities for the future,” says Richard.
