The trading platform naranjasyfrutas.com, launched in 2012 by agricultural engineer Juan José Bas, has recorded a notable growth in its activity in recent months thanks to the rising international demand and the greater use of technologies motivated by the pandemic. The search for crops by businesses on the platform has grown by 44.5% since March compared to the same period in 2019, and the search time has increased by 40%. Moreover, it currently has 3,245 registered producers (48.4% more), 70% of which are from the Region of Valencia.
"People used to go to town bars to look for producers, but the virus has restricted these contacts and has made it necessary to use technology, and the platform has been given a boost by this," says Juan José Bas.
Consequently, the portal has decided to add new services with the aim of improving the communication between producers and the businesses interested in their crops.
One of the free services recently included on the web is the sending of personalized alerts, called "Let me know about new crops". This allows the businesses registered on the web to receive a summary of the newly published crops and varieties every Monday, together with the contact details of the producers. This service guarantees up-to-date information by the producers themselves, allowing them to get quickly in touch with businesses.
Another of the new services added this month, and that businesses have requested, is the possibility of searching for crops using the new map incorporated into the web, which facilitates the search for crops based on location.
"The objective of the platform is to modernize the sector with small and simple changes, so that little by little users can also achieve better results thanks to a more efficient communication between producers and businesses," says Juan José Bas.
According to the engineer, "posting crops on an internet portal does not mean abandoning the traditional form of sale based on personal treatment and going to the field to see the production. It is rather an expansion of the sales channels."
