Philippines’ Customs impound misdeclared agri goods

At the Port of Subic, the Bureau of Customs seized 17 containers of agricultural goods such as carrots and broccoli from China worth P9.3 million (€158,000). Instead of the declared contents -frozen jams- boxes of fresh carrots and broccoli were found in the shipment consigned to Zhenpin Consumer Goods Trading.

It arrived at the Port of Subic last November 22 and was the subject of an alert on November 27, District Collector Maritess Martin said. The containers underwent inspection headed by the Customs bureau in collaboration with the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, National Bureau of Investigation, and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
