Cold weather may damage Chinese bananas

Last week (December 6-12), overall banana prices in production areas remained stable. Although prices of premium-grades and products damaged by the cold weather varied, they had little effect on the overall market. As the season in Guangxi coming to an end, shipments, in general, are decreasing, and production areas in the southwest are taking over.

The low temperature in most parts of the country has slowed down the banana market, resulting in low prices in production areas. At present, except for premium-grades from Laos and Myanmar that are able to fetch over 3 yuan/kg, most products in other production areas are marketed for a little over 2 yuan/kg. Fortunately, the temperature is low and the total shipment volume is not large, so the price has not fluctuated significantly.

According to weather.com, in the next few days, the country will experience the first major drop in temperature this winter. Even in southern areas such as Guangdong and Guangxi, the highest temperature will only reach 10 degrees. This means that bananas may become damaged by the cold weather.
