Turkey has a leading position for hazelnut, cherry, fig and apricot production and exports in the world. Some 67 percent of hazelnut production, 26 percent of cherry production, 27 percent of fig and 23 percent of apricot production in the world are produced by Turkey. An annual average of 500,000 to 750,000 tons of hazelnuts are produced. This figure corresponds to 67 percent of the world’s hazelnut production.
Again, Turkey met 27 percent of world fig production in the last year which corresponds to 306,000 tons and it has obtained 286 million dollars from dried and fresh fig production.
The nation was also responsible for 26 percent of the world cherry production, which corresponds to 627,000 tons and its cherry exports amounted to 162 million dollars. Apricot production of Turkey ranges from 750,000 dollars and 985,000 dollars and 294 million dollars of revenues were obtained from apricot exports.
