Dialogue to lift suspension of crop protection agent d-limonene in Germany ongoing

The crop protection agent d-limonene has been approved for use as potato sprout inhibitor in several EU members states. Very high levels of demand have been seen, in response to the recent revocation of use of CIPC.

Prior to approval and market introduction in Germany, following suspected incorrect purchase and application methods, still under investigation, significant fire damage in a potato storage site in Anhalt-Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt has been observed.

Due to this incident, the German regulator BVL announced on Friday 4th December 2020 a temporary suspension of approval pending further information from the approval holder.

D-limonene is supplied by UPL Europe Ltd and its subsidiaries under the brand name ARGOSĀ® and is supplied in each country together with very clear advice on product use.

Dialogue is currently now ongoing with regard to lift the suspension and to grant final approval in order to distribute the product on the market in Germany as soon as possible.
