Possible change to customs policies in China brings challenges for import agencies

Over recent years, the number of import agencies in China has continued to increase. These agencies mainly handle logistics, enabling their clients to focus on their core products and become more competitive. Compared with previous years, the biggest challenge this year for these agencies is the uncertainties brought about by Covid-19. The pandemic is still raging in the global society, and although China has done a good job in prevention and control, sporadic outbreaks at major import ports would affect import quarantine requirements and customs policies. Major import agencies are following the latest developments closely.

"As a freight forwarding agency with more than 15 years of experience in fruit import agency services, we handle imports from various countries around the world. At present, the quarantine standards for fruits imported from different countries are being adjusted due to Covid-19, and we will share the latest policy requirements with our clients as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary losses,” Marco, Manager of Shenzhen Jianchengye International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd. said.

In addition to fruits, the agency also handles the import of frozen meat, pre-packaged food and other types of goods by sea and air transportation to major entry ports across China. Marco said, “As far as fruits are concerned, due to historical reasons, a large proportion of traders are concentrated in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. At at the same time, with the development of China’s economy in recent years, a lot of wholesale markets and high-quality traders are also emerging in other regions, developing in a more diversified direction. As a result, the distribution of imported fruit traders is also wider."

Among the many fruit wholesale markets, the Guangzhou Jiangnan Fruit Wholesale Market is second to none. At its peak, more than 60% of premium imported fruits were distributed from this market to all parts of the country, and most of these imported fruits entered the Chinese market from Hong Kong or Shenzhen Shekou Port. Handling more than 15,000 40-foot refrigerated containers each year, Jianchengye International is one of the oldest imported fruit customs clearance companies in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, appreciated and trusted by its clients.
