Last season, Fonkels introduced various eco-friendly fruit trays. These apple trays and strawberry, cherry, and soft fruit punnets form part of the Fonkels Fruity line. This introduction was crowned by the European Carton Excellence Award 2020. That was in the Innovative Category for Fonkel's strawberry container, the Re-Fruiter tray. “Our close cooperation with growers is bearing fruit. We're proud of that," says Fonkels General Manager, Wim Apeldoorn.
Improved 2021 assortment
“We develop our fruit packaging in collaboration with farmers. So, the packaging isn't straightforward but fits seamlessly into growers' processes. It's also brimming with smart ideas. That saves time and improves the fruit's quality. For example, we've added a patented Flexx-board bottom in all the soft fruit and strawberry trays. It's springy, so the fruit isn't crushed, and moisture is absorbed."
"The trays are also uniquely shaped, so they don't topple over. They're easy to grasp and fit perfectly into EPS crates or cardboard boxes too. All the trays are 100% plastic-free and made of 100% recycled cardboard. We've used this season's client feedback to improve the trays further. We've also expanded the range. It now includes, for example, cherry trays with a flap and a 400g strawberry punnet," says Wim.
Early bird discount for fruit farmers
Early bird discounts are synonymous with holidays. And Fonkels is trying to get fruit growers into a bit of a holiday mood. They're offering an attractive discount on these sustainable fruit trays for 2021. Fruit farmers interested in Fonkels' printed or unprinted fruit trays will receive a 5% discount on their order. That's if it's placed before 17 January 2021. The trays' layout and delivery date will be determined in consultation with the growers.
