The third edition of Seminis Winter Melon Event

For two weeks Seminis (Bayer Vegetable Seed Division) organized individual and personalized meetings with several players in the melon industry with the objective to create more awareness of the taste, firmness, shelf life and sustainability (resistance packages) about the Seminis winter and summer Galia portfolio around the world.

They organized digital and individual face to face meetings with the key Spanish producers in Murcia to exchange experience about melons, new trends and market discussions.

The main EU traders and retailers also had participation in this edition through Digital and personalized meetings where they were able to share and to discuss about the main market challenges such as uniformity, appearance and taste during the whole year.

Before the digital meetings, fruit samples were sent to the participants from different continents to optimize information exchange about the Seminis Galia portfolio along the sessions.

The alignment between the Brazilian Portfolio and the European assortment was explained during the presentations by the Seminis Team in Europe with ambassadors of Breeding, Marketing, Market Development and Value Chain / Trade partnerships.

Sampling Varieties:

The highlights from some commercial Galia varieties:

Brazil: SVMG4974, positioned as the improvement of the McLaren variety due to the high resistance to Leaf Minor, brix between 12 and 15, very good flavor, firmness and high yield Potential with concentrated harvest with impacts directly in a better shelf life.

Spain + Brazil: SV5133MG, focused on sustainability and shelf life, excellent uniformity, good taste and high quality allowing long delivery opportunity.

Spain: Albizu: First European Galia with good consumer quality, a traditional flavor, delicious taste, brix level above 14, excellent postharvest quality and shelf life. The strong resistance package makes this variety attractive for all kind of growers (also organic)

Galvir: Sustainability, shelf life and flavor. Very good post-harvest characteristics and excellent flavor with brix level above 14.

The Seminis Galia portfolio can deliver a year-round availability of high quality Galia melons with excellent consumption aspects like perfect flavor, shelf life and appearance due to its easy adaption around the globe.

This was just the first step of our series of digital meetings that will be continued for other segments such as Cantaloupe, Yellow honeydew, Orange Candy and others.
