The current pandemic has pushed the issue of sustainable packaging into the background. Nevertheless, behind the scenes, packaging manufacturers are working at full speed to develop new solutions for the fruit and vegetable industry. Solidus Solutions Converting is no exception: this international company wanted to present three different packaging innovations at this year's expoSE.
Asparagus box 1.5 kg SPP 2.0
The 1.5 kg Asparagus Box from Solidus, which was first presented in 2019, has established itself solidly since then. More than half a million units have already been sold this year, says Oliver Wendt, contact person for the DACH countries at the company. "However, we have noticed that we have to keep on working on our products, so we have now developed our 1.5 kg single asparagus packaging units further, for better handling. We have given the new packaging the designation SPP 2.0 to give more weight to any further developments within our modern packaging concepts."
The AsparagusPortionPack 2.0 (SPP) has an open frame so that asparagus can be easily placed inside. "This of course speeds up the packing process tremendously," Wendt explains. "In addition to this, we are already working on ways to further expand the range of applications and individual use of the box, hopefully developing another version with even higher utility values in the near future."

Double-chambered berry box MZB
Besides the optimized SpargelBox, the Solidus Solutions team would have presented a second solution at the Karlsruhe fair. The common 1-kg bulk packaging for soft fruit is often equipped with a handle in the middle. Many customers will have these packages filled automatically with two loads of 500 grams. Wendt: "However, since there is no separation in the middle, the load can shift during the first filling, which will lead to the second chamber not being filled completely."
The Multi-Zweikammer-Beerenbox (MZB) from Solidus Solutions should alleviate this problem. "We have equipped our solution with an integrated separating section beneath the handle. This ensures optimised filling, protection of the product and comfortable handling. Whether berries or vegetables or combinations, there are almost no limits to the range of applications. We will also be presenting this solid board solution at the trade fair," says Wendt.
Solid board trays for soft fruit
Last but not least, Solidus Solutions will now also enter the punnet sector. "Our modern soft fruit punnets are currently still in the processing phase. But the solution itself is already being produced and sampled. For us, this is an interesting expansion of our product range, which we will promote a bit more in the run-up to the new season."
