TROPS is the first Spanish agri-food company to certify its sustainability strategy

TROPS has become the first company in the Spanish agri-food sector to receive the Certification of Sustainability and Business Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), granted by AENOR, proving that an agri-food company can be sustainable while also being a national and international leader in the sector.

The certificate was presented to the president of TROPS, José Lorca, by the President of the Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, and the AENOR director for Andalusia, Antonio Pérez.

Also present at the award ceremony were the Councilor of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Carmen Crespo; the President of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, and the Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Antonio Moreno, among other authorities.

The director of AENOR praised the work and commitment of TROPS, highlighting that the cooperative has thus become the first Andalusian agri-food company to obtain this certificate.

According to Juanma Moreno, "any company not committed to digitization and environmental and sustainable policies will probably deal with competitiveness and marketing problems in the future," since "the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leven, announced that many of the funds to be invested in the coming years, approximately one trillion Euro, will go to the green economy, energy transition or water policies, among others, as well as to digitization. In this sense, "TROPS is at the forefront."

"TROPS is showing that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand, since it succeeds in producing quality products in a viable and innovative way, and is present in the most select markets in Europe and the world," he said.

Commitment to sustainable development
Since its inception, TROPS has based its business strategy on social, economic and environmental sustainability. For this reason, and adhering to its commitment to sustainable development, it joined the United Nations Global Compact in early 2020 through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) project.

The objective of this pact is to generate an international movement of sustainable companies. The 17 SDGs aim to transform the world together, tackling poverty and fighting against climate change, and promoting education, equality or the defense of the environment.

Each of the projects developed by TROPS is framed within one or more sustainable development objectives, with a permanent vision of how it can contribute to the social, economic and environmental improvement of its surroundings.
