Efe Yedibaslar on Amiral Fresh’s pomegranate season

“We anticipate pomegranate shipments will continue until second week of February”

According to Efe Yedibaslar, Procurement and Sales Manager, for Turkish fruit exporter Amiral Fresh, they’re off to a good start, after having spent a long time preparing for this debut season: “Our pomegranate season started quickly with good demand from different parts of the world. We believe that the shipments of this product, which is rich in vitamins, will continue to increase in December. We anticipate that our shipments will continue until the second week of February. Amiral Fresh is a relatively new company. This means last season was mostly a year of preparation for us. This season our expectation is to export between 1000 and 1200 tons of pomegranates.”

Having your first season is challenging regardless, but this has been exceptionally true for Amiral Fresh, as the coronavirus meant they had to immediately adjust in the warehouse and orchards. “The major challenge for us has been dealing with the coronavirus, although the entire world is experiencing the same difficulties. Coronavirus affects all sectors deeply, just as it affects life. Despite all these difficulties, I believe that we will get through this period in the best way with the strict measures we take in our warehouse and orchards.” Yedibaslar explains.

The exporter has established its clientele in the European, Asian and the Canadian markets, Yedibaslar says. “Amiral Fresh is a global export company serving all world countries. Our main customers are European supermarket chains. The Scandinavia countries, the UK market and Germany are the most important markets for Amiral Fresh. In addition, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Qatar are countries where our newer customers are located. Our products are cherries, figs, apricot, pomegranate and grapes. As time progresses, our shipments by sea and air are increasing with different products.”

Yedibaslar states that the prices for pomegranates haven’t been subject to a lot of changes over the past few years, but this could change this season: “Pomegranate prices have not differed significantly in the past years. It is obviously difficult to predict what will happen due to the pandemic period we are in, but it is predicted that there will be a certain increase in prices.”

“We have young, passionate, experienced and distinguished Amiral Fresh staff in all departments, from field to fork. For our main products like cherries, we have two different cherry sizing machines. One of them has a capacity of 10 tons per hour and beside this, we own a Maf-Roda fig and pomegranate sizing machine. Global projects are our main aim, so we offer more modern and different types of packaging varieties like layers, punnets and Heat-Seal. Amiral Fresh goes international!” Yedibaslar concludes.
