A Taiwanese firm is training 40 avocado producers in the Honduran departments of Ocotepeque and Santa Barbara, giving them technical assistance and technological support, in order to promote the country's avocado exports.
"We are very happy and honored to have signed this agreement with the Inversion Agricola de Taiwan in Honduras (Taiwan's Agricultural Investment in Honduras) company," said Mauricio Guevara, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG). "The goal is to improve the avocado sector's quality and production. In the medium term we expect producers to boost exports of the fruit outside the region," he added.
"The avocado crop has been promoted through the National Avocado Plan via SAG, which has given very good results to date," he said. "This is a new facet for this item in the country because we are already moving to the other stage, which is that of commercialization," he said.
"We'd like to thank the brother country of China, Taiwan, for the unconditional support that it has given us and because it has believed in this project that is so important for rural areas and for thousands of producers."
"The Taiwanese company focuses on the industrialization, marketing, and export of agricultural products to Europe, Asia, and other countries," Guevara stressed.
