Chris Chamballu, France Champignon:

"There is good demand for cultivated white mushrooms"

“The cultivated white mushroom is currently in high demand,” says Chris Chamballu, sales director of France Champignon. “This demand comes mainly from supermarkets, which are accelerating the market. However, the wholesale market is slowing down due to the pandemic leading to restaurant closures. We feel that our wholesale customers are waiting for new government decisions to be made. That is why they are not currently placing large orders. "

France Champignon markets 4,000 tonnes of fresh mushrooms every year. The Val de Loire cooperative has been in full production since October. “At the moment we are slowly thinking about the parties for the month of December. Like every year, there is an exponential demand at the end of the year that is very important to us. The French yield, on the other hand, cannot of course meet this demand 100% and so a small part of the mushrooms is imported." Most imported mushrooms come from Poland.
