BASF launches Mistela F1, a productive and highly tasty premium plum cherry tomato

The tomato crisis is no secret, but every crisis brings an opportunity, and this is how BASF, which continues to innovate with this crop, prefers to see it. The date-like plum cherry Mistela F1 is one of the latest additions to the portfolio of Nunhems®, its horticultural brand, and with which they are contributing to improving the profitability of tomatoes.

Mistela F1 is a productive variety that is also resistant to the yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV). Nunhems® recommends grafting it and developing between 3-4 stems per plant. In this way, “we allow the grower to reduce the seed costs without any losses in the production," says José Antonio Furió, BASF Vegetable Seeds' Tomato Sales Specialist. This results in greater crop profitability.

Externally, the Mistela F1 is a uniform plum cherry tomato, deep red in color, crisp, with a good post-harvest and a perfect balance between sugar and acidity that guarantees the satisfaction of consumers; so much so, that repeat purchases are almost a given.

Its morphology (date-like) and tastiness are highly appreciated by consumers, as shown by the blind tastings carried out by Nunhems®. To this we must add its convenience, which makes them ideal for snacking, even for children.

"With Mistela F1, we have launched a premium, productive and highly tasty plum cherry tomato that allows the grower to make a profit by offering the consumer a good shopping experience," says Furió, who adds that its qualities have earned it the trust. of producers and marketers in its first commercial year.
