After two years of research and development, BEMISAL officially presented BIO MANGA®, a new and eco-friendly product that protects a bunch of banana and helps producers achieve premium prices, due to the excellent appearance of the fruit.
BIO MANGA®
BIO MANGA® is a protective packaging made of Kraft paper that resists humidity, the harsh treatment that the fruits receive in the fields, the natural adversities of the weather that can damage the fruit, particularly rain and wind, as well as volcanic ash and pests. This product was tailor-made for successful banana growers.
“We are pleased to present BIO MANGA®. This novel product is biodegradable and catapults good practices in the banana industry. Our product disintegrates in minutes, whereas plastic packaging takes hundreds of years to disintegrate. Its dimensions make it easy to place on the bunch. Producers can even use a paper string to tie it up. It is an excellent development to make banana plantations totally friendly to the environment," said Florence Quiñonez de Sandoval, the executive director of BEMISAL.

“At present, we are already developing other biodegradable products that will benefit the supply chain of banana companies. We are working in alliance with banana producers from Guatemala and Nicaragua, and a global marketer with representation in Costa Rica. We are ready to serve any volume of BIO MANGA®. We have the production and dispatch capacity,” she added.
BIO MANGA® is manufactured to adapt to the size of each bunch of bananas; it allows sunlight to pass but prevents sunburn on the fruit.
