Tanzania plans acquisition of refrigerated trains for perishable transports

Tanzania's President John Magufuli has presented plans 800 new freight wagons, including refrigerated wagons, for transporting perishables such as vegetables and fruits, for the country's revived central railway line.

Magufuli: "The refrigerated wagons will help growers of vegetables and fruits in northern regions that are served by the central railway line to ferry their fresh produce to domestic and foreign markets through the Dar es Salaam port.”

Launching the revived Dar es Salaam-Tanga-Kilimanjaro-Arusha railway line managed by the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), Magufuli added that plans were also underway to buy 39 new locomotive engines for the central railway line.

Masanja Kadogosa, TRC director general, told revival work of the railway line was financed locally and was done by local engineers.
