Birger Exner (Behr AG) on the market launch of the red KaRuby carrot:

"The KaRuby is the new all-rounder in our range"

BEHR AG is starting this year's winter season with an interesting expansion of its product range. The first of the brand new, ruby red carrot KaRuby have already been harvested. The first delivery to the retail trade has already taken place. "We were able to record good order figures in the first week of sales," Marketing Manager Birger Exner confirms.

For the producers of the "Mecklenburg Harvest" the year 2020 is also marked by the Corona pandemic. "Thanks to rapid implementation of the measures, we have got through the season quite lightly so far," says Exner. At the moment demand is normal and it matches the supply. However, Spain is not coming up with the usual volumes for weeks 44 and 45, so there could be bottlenecks. It remains to be seen how the situation in Spain develops. BEHR AG has its own production facilities in Spain. The Corona situation does not allow for a reliable forecast. "Nobody can foresee where the journey will take us at the moment, not even the government is making any statements yet."

Nevertheless, the harvesting season there will soon begin: At the beginning of November - a little later than usual due to the weather - the first iceberg lettuce and mini-Romana from Spanish cultivation will be harvested. "Afterwards, the other vegetable crops will follow."

KaRuby: New all-rounder from BEHR
Meanwhile, harvesting is also being done diligently in the German fields. This month the market launch of carrot variety KaRuby took place. The ruby red carrot is suitable as a snack, but also has unique cooking properties. It retains its striking color when cooked. Exner: "Therefore we decided not to offer them as part of a mixed package, but in 750 g bowls at the POS."

The quantity of the new carrot is currently still manageable: It grows and flourishes on a producer's farm in the north of Lower Saxony. However, the first feedback is promising already.
